Our Story

Wood Country is owned and operated by the Speck family, manufacturers of fine, handcrafted outdoor cedar furniture since 1986. We began small, with Tom Speck crafting furniture on the side to bring in extra money to support our growing family. As the value of his products became known, we sold at street fairs and began selling wholesale to garden centers and nurseries, growing our business and our line of beautiful, handmade products.

In 1990, we moved to Idaho to join our business with other family members but, after a few years, we branched out on our own, once again. After years of running a wholesale business, in 2004, Tom and Leasa bought Wood Country, a competitor, and began a new adventure selling our fine furniture as retail, so that individuals with a taste for well-made outdoor furnishings could buy them directly from us.

As our business grew, so did the kids, who began helping with both the selling and crafting sides of the company. Our daughter continues to help us from time to time and our son is the resident shipping specialist. We have one employee that has been with us 14 years and one for 7 years. We also have had Tom’s uncle work for us for 15 years. We are truly a family ran business. There is nothing better than working with family! We understand each other, have similar goals for our company and work together to create the best outdoor furniture available!

Quality, workmanship and sustainability are very important to us at Wood Country. We have a 22,000 square-foot manufacturing center, here in Idaho, where all of our craftsmen perform their skills. We have employed seven people since 1990 and value their hard work and talent. We couple our excellent craftsmanship with the finest materials, bought only from green suppliers. All of our wood comes from sustainable sources in the United States. We only buy cedar from suppliers certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) to guarantee that the wood we use comes from renewable forestry practices.
